Sadistic killer poured bleach down victim’s throat
MURDERER JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER ‘HORRIFIC’ ATTACK
A DISABLED man was lured to his death by a sadistic murderer.
Jiri Ulman, affectionately known as ‘stick man’ because he needed crutches to walk, was a popular figure seen almost daily begging in Moston’s Peace Garden and on his favourite bench outside St Dunstan’s Church. His body was found two days after he was subjected to a ‘truly horrific’ attack by Miroslav Kolman, a man he believed to be his friend.
Kolman lured Jiri to a house in Moston before savagely assaulting him and force-feeding
him bleach. He then bundled Jiri’s body into the back of a Vauxhall Vectra before dumping him in woodland near Ten Acres Lane, Newton Heath, where he was discovered on the afternoon of August 8 with a tyre around his neck.
Kolman, 36, of Kenyon Lane, Moston, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of murder at Manchester Crown Court. He must serve a minimum of 35 years before parole can be considered.
The only possible motive police have found is that Kolman believed Jiri had stolen some of his CDs several years ago. During sentencing, Judge David Stockdale QC commented on the sadistic nature of the murder. Det Chief Insp Lewis Hughes, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “The attack Kolman inflicted on Jiri was truly horrific and resulted in tragic circumstances. Kolman murdered a vulnerable member of the community who was described by many as a nice and gentle man. He then tried to cover his tracks and hoped he’d get away with it, but he is now very much where he deserves to be – locked away behind bars with a long time to reflect on his heinous actions.”
Czech Republic-born Jiri had no known family, but friends held a funeral for him shortly after his death. Speaking at the time, former carer and mother-of-three Yvonne Rae, 47, told the M.E.N.: “He was such a lovely man, such a nice man. I just don’t want him to be forgotten about.”
