Dale eye Spurs clash after FA Cup win

- By TOM HARLE

ROCHDALE MILLWALL 1 0 ROCHDALE set up a potential moneyspinning FA Cup tie with giants Tottenham Hotspur after dumping Championship Millwall out of the competition 1-0 last night.

Ian Henderson’s second-half strike sent Keith Hill’s side through to the fifth round, where they will host Spurs at Spotland – if they beat Newport in tonight’s replay.

The game was played on a difficult surface covered in sand, with the League One hosts adapting far better to conditions than the Lions.

Dale had the first chance on two minutes, Andy Cannon’s volley from a deflected Matt Done cross dropping narrowly wide. Conor McLaughlin’s lofted ball over the top of the back four found Shane Ferguson, but the winger was unable to get it under his spell with goal gaping.

If Dale edged the opening exchanges, Millwall had the better of the rest of the first 45 with Callum Camps forced into a flying block to deny Ryan Tunnicliffe.

The second-half began at a quicker tempo, Cannon’s cross flicking off an outstretched boot and nearly sneaking in at David Martin’s near post.

The Lions had defending to do as Jason Shackell charged down Mark Kitching’s low shot.

Dale nabbed the winner on 55 minutes, Henderson guiding past Martin from close range after great work from Calvin Andrew to out-muscle Shaun Hutchinson out wide.

Neil Harris brought on his big guns, Steve Morison and Lee Gregory, but they made no impact.

Fred Onyedinma’s blocked shot was the closest they came as Dale reached the fifth round for the first time in 16 years.
