Catfish and Libertines headlining Kendal fest

CATFISH And The Bottlemen, The Libertines, Run DMC and Hacienda Classical will headline Kendal Calling 2018.

The award-winning festival, which brings together a weekend of music, arts, comedy, food and drink in the Lake District between July 26 and 29, will return with a huge supporting bill including James, Shed Seven, White Lies, Slow Readers Club, Ocean Colour Scene, Peter Hook & The Light and The Sherlocks.

Hacienda Classical will open the festival with a performanc­e on the Thursday night.

Actor Idris Elba will DJ on the Glow Dance Stage.

Charlatans’ frontman Tim Burgess will bring his Tim Peaks Diner pop up back to Kendal, featuring a line up that includes Manchester poet Tony Walsh, Bernard Butler in conversati­on, The Waltones, Trampolene, Yucatan, Average Sex and DJ sets from The Coral, Martin Blunt and Burgess himself.

Elvana, Brownbear and No Hot Ashes are part of the bill on the Woodlands Stage, as are the Beatsie Boys and te London Astrobeat Orchestra, playing Talking Heads songs.

The Glow Dance Stage has a lineup featuring DJ sets from Basement Jaxx and Gorgon City, a special takeover from DnB stalwarts Hospitalit­y, sets from Grandmaste­r Flash and Mistajam, alongside Horse Meat Disco, Wookie and Gotsome, get ready to rave the night away. Other stages feature DJ Format, Friendly Fire, Control of the Going, The Clone Roses and DJ sets from Clint Boon, Dave Haslam and Thomas Turgoose. Festival director, Andy Smith said: “We’re lucky to have one of our biggest lineups ever and can’t wait to welcome hip hop royalty Run DMC to the festival alongside our other headliners Catfish And The Bottlemen, The Libertines and Hacienda Classical.” Peter Hook said a first appearance at Kendal Calling was a ‘dream come true.’ “I’ve always loved the Lake District and the opportunit­y to play with both my favourite acts, Hacienda Classical and The Light at Kendal Calling, coming there for the first time this year, is really a dream come true. Who could possibly turn down double bubble?” Set in Lowther Deer Park, Kendal Calling also features arts installati­ons, comedy, gourmet food, kids’ entertainm­ent and a real ale festival.
