House and cars in crossfire as shots fired ‘at motorist’

-

POLICE believe a moving car was the target of a shooting after three vehicles and a house were blasted.

Officers were called to Ansdell Street, on the border of Cheetham Hill and Lower Crumpsall, after gun shots were fired shortly before 7.40am on Tuesday, February 6.

Bullet casings were recovered from a Volvo, a Mini and a Toyota as well as a house on the street.

A cordon was placed in the street and the bullets have been sent off for forensic and ballistic tests.

GMP detectives believe the car and the house were hit accidentally.

They think the shooter was trying to hit a moving white Mercedesstyle car on the road at the time.

Det Chief Insp Richard Ennis, from GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “Initially we believed that the offender had come to this specific road to mindlessly target residents’ cars and homes. However, enquiries now suggest the intended target – the white car – just happened to be on that road and the shots were purposefully fired at this car.

“We are trying to work out exactly why this happened and who the gunman was and who was driving the car but no victims have currently come forward. We are continuing patrols in the area and if anyone has any concerns please feel free to approach an officer and they will try and help you in any way they can.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 1146 or 101 – or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
