‘I’m just so glad she got to meet her before she died’
HEAD OF A FIVE-GENERATION FAMILY, BERYL HAD FORMED A SPECIAL BOND WITH GREAT-GREAT GRANDAUGHTER ISLA
THE matriarch of a five-generation family has died.
Beryl Napier was thrilled to become a great-great grandmother for the first time last year, when her great-grandson Connor Elliott’s daughter, Isla Grace, was born.
Beryl, 85, passed away in hospital this month, after being unwell for a short time.
At Christmas all five generations of the family came together to celebrate with each other.
The occasion was particularly special for Connor as he got to see his great-grandma form a special bond with his daughter.
Connor, 24, said: “It was the happiest I’d seen her in a long, long time.
“I’m just so glad that she got to meet her before she went.
“It was one of the best moments ever to see her holding her, not wanting to put the baby down.”
Beryl lived in Gorton before moving to Dane Bank some years ago. She had four children, Julie, Ian, Stuart and Carol, as well as nine grandchildren, ten greatgrandchildren and one greatgreat-grandaughter.
She worked at Busy Kids Nursery in Denton with her daughter before she retired, and was married to John, who passed away in 2011.
Connor said his great-grandma was extremely family orientated and loved spending time with all the children.
He added: “She was just so funny and friendly. She loved her family.
“There’s so many of us and she always wanted to spend time with her family.
“She used to make goody bags for her great grandchildren, full of crisps, chocolate, sweets and fruit and she’d come round every Saturday for years to give them out.”
Beryl’s funeral service takes place at Dukinfield Crematorium at 4pm on Tuesday, February 13.
It will be followed by a wake at Haughton Green Conservative Club.
