Addison confident Sale can spring into action

- RUGBY UNION

WILL Addison says Sale Sharks’ return to Premiership action away at London Irish today can herald the start of an early spring offensive.

The trip to the Madejski Stadium forms the start of a tough four-week block of games which will see the Sharks visit Bath and Northampton as well as a home encounter against Saracens.

It’s a demanding schedule but with the Sharks currently lying in seventh place in the Premiership table and only five points off the top-four, there is everything to play for with nine games of the season remaining.

And Addison says such is the ambition and belief within the Sale squad, it’s a challenge the players are relishing.

“Although the immediate focus is London Irish on Saturday, we’ve earmarked this next month as almost like a little tournament,” he told the Sale Sharks website.

“We’ve got three away games in that block which is always tough but the way we have performed away this season is a sign of good things – we just need to get over the line.”

Looking ahead to today’s game, Sale chief Steve Diamond said: “We face possibly one of the most challenging games in going to London Irish.

“They are unbeaten in the last four games and in their last three league games they have only lost by three or four points so I think it’s a big obstacle for us and we’ve got to make sure we get over it.”
