Body found after blood-soaked man goes on rampage
MURDER INQUIRY AS WOMAN DISCOVERED DEAD IN FLAT DRIVERS ATTACKED BY SUSPECT IN STREET
A BLOOD-SOAKED man leapt from a city centre apartment and went on the rampage attacking drivers moments before police discovered a woman’s body.
Detectives have launched a murder probe after the gruesome find at the Shush Apartments in Ancoats.
A 37-year-old man was last night being quizzed by detectives on suspicion of murder.
The drama unfolded yesterday morning during rush-hour on Swan Street.
Eyewitnesses described seeing a man, covered in blood, jumping from a second-storey window onto a stationary black Hyundai i30 below at around 7.40am.
He then began throwing punches at the family inside the car, hitting a woman in the face before fleeing on foot along Cross Keys Street.
The man was seen running towards Thompson Street where he smashed the rear window of a BMW with his bare hands.
He tried to drag the woman who was driving the car from inside but was unsuccessful, instead ‘smearing blood’ everywhere, witnesses said.
Officers, who were called to reports of a man behaving ‘erratically,’ raced to the scene and were there within minutes.
They found a trail of destruction which led them to a ‘violent’ man who was quickly detained by around 10 police officers and a brave passerby. A 37-year-old man, who was injured during the incident, was taken to A&E and was last night in police custody for questioning. When police returned to the rented flat they found the body of a woman, aged in her 20s, inside. Police say the suspect and the victim were known to each other and were ‘in a relationship.’ They have not been able to give any further details about the nature of the relationship. It is not known if they are local to Manchester.
Senior officers could not reveal if the suspect was armed with a weapon during the incident.
A post-mortem examination was due to take place last night.
Detectives have launched a murder probe and have described the incident as ‘domestic.’
Superintendent Chris Hill, of Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester team, praised brave members of the public who alerted officers and helped to detain the suspect during the ‘very traumatic incident.’
“At 7.40am police were called to an initial confusing incident that took place in the Ancoats area,” he said.
“Upon arrival they ascertained that a male had jumped from a second floor flat and landed on a roof of a vehicle and had assaulted those persons within and had then run off.
“The male had then further

assaulted further members of the public and had tried to get into other vehicles in the area.
“Officers were then pointed to the direction of the offender and with the support and assistance of members of the public were able to detain the male.
“The male did become violent and a man, a member of the public, which I’m very grateful for, did support my officers in detainment.
“Officers then looked at the block of flats from where the male jumped from and found a woman’s body.

The M.E.N. understands that the flat was formerly used by an escort service, but police have ‘categorically’ ruled out any link between its previous use and the current murder investigation.
It is understood that the flat is now used as rented accommodation.
