Target Vidal wants to stay at Munich

- By ALEXANDRA PORTER

ARTURO Vidal insists he is not thinking about a summer transfer amid interest from United .

The Bayern Munich midfielder is of interest to Jose Mourinho as he looks to reinforce a midfield likely to lose Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini at the end of the season.

Vidal’s current contract with Bayern runs until 2019, but there have been multiple suggestions in the German press that he is to be sold at the end of the current campaign to help make room for Leon Goretzka, who will move to Munich from Schalke.

But the Chilean claims he would like to extend his current deal, with his family settled in the city.

He told Sport1: “I’m not thinking about a transfer. I feel very comfortable here.

“Of course I would like to extend my contract. That’s an option. My kids are very happy here, too.”

Vidal played alongside Paul Pogba at Juventus, while he and Alexis Sanchez are team-mates for their national side.

United considered signing Vidal during Louis van Gaal’s first summer at the club in 2014, but the Dutchman was concerned about the player’s knee injuries.

Carrick is likely to retire at the end of the season, although he has not yet reached a final decision, while Fellaini is out of contract and is free to negotiate with overseas clubs.
