Henry: ‘Kun deserves more recognition’

SERGIO Aguero’s four goals against Leicester at the weekend have reopened the debate about whether the City striker gets the credit he deserves.

Aguero has been overlooked for individual honours during his seven years in England, not once making the team of the year despite being one of the most clinical and prolific strikers ever seen in the Premier League.

This year could also be a struggle. The 29-year-old has 21 goals in the Premier League campaign so far this season but still finds himself behind Harry Kane and Mo Salah, while Kevin de Bruyne is the leading contender to be named the division’s best player.

Discussing Aguero’s achievements, Thierry Henry was is no doubt that his fellow striker deserves more recognition.

“You have journalists voting for the best player, players voting and if you ask an individual player ‘who has been one of the most consistent or the best striker in the league recently’ – Harry Kane is coming along – but they would all say Aguero,” he said.

“But if you asked them who has been the best player recently or in a certain season and they had to vote, they don’t put Aguero.

“Usually the striker gets a little edge on the votes, but somehow he doesn’t when all the numbers are showing us that the guy is a winner, a great goalscorer and he put a stamp on it, he won the league with those goals.

“They were very important.”
