Girl, 8, shatters wrist after trip in massive pothole

A LITTLE girl needed surgery after tripping in a pothole.

Now her mother is demanding a housing association takes action to improve the ‘shocking’ state of a road at the back of their home.

Kelly Seaman says eight-yearold Grace is still in discomfort after shattering her wrist in the fall last year.

Grace was returning to her home on Langley Road in Salford when she tripped in a pothole.

Kelly said: “Grace was coming back to our house and as we live on a main road we often use the back door.

“It was about 7.30pm at night and it was at the end of September, so it was still light.

“She tripped on this massive pothole.

“She shattered her wrist and was in terrible pain. She was taken to Salford Royal Hospital and then transferred to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

“She had surgery for about an hour-and-a-half and had metal pins inserted into her arm.

“The injury has still not healed fully. She made need another scan and more treatment.

“I have lived here for four years and potholes have been a problem all that time.”

Kelly’s terraced home is at the end of a block.

There is a small side street and a road behind the property, where Grace was injured.

Kelly said both stretches are peppered with holes.

She rents her property from City West Housing Association, which has about 5,000 homes across Salford.

“I spoke to City West in October after Grace was injured and they came out to have a look but nothing has been done and I have heard nothing since,” Kelly added. “I think they should resurface the road at the side of our property and at the back.” City West declined to comment but the M.E.N. understands that bosses are aware of the incident, but part of the land where the accident happened is privately owned, so they cannot carry out repairs without the owner’s consent. Residents across Greater Manchester have inundated the Manchester Evening news with complaints about the state of the region’s roads after we highlighted a particularly poor stretch in Wythenshawe – which was promptly repaired the day after our story on people’s complaints.
