REASONS TO SNAP, CRACKLE AND POP INTO WORK...
INSIDE CEREAL GIANT KELLOGG’S NEW HEADQUARTERS, THEY’RE GRRRREAT!
IS this the coolest office in Greater Manchester?
Kellogg’s has given us a glimpse of its swanky new Salford headquarters – where workers can enjoy bowls of free cereal.
The global food manufacturer has taken three floors in the Orange Tower with panoramic views over MediaCityUK, a huge mural of their most iconic characters and ‘living walls’ made of moss.
Relocating from Trafford’s Talbot Road after nearly 30 years, the cereal giant says the move has enabled a ‘cultural reset,’ with more open plan space and a colourful Pringles-themed auditorium.
Visitors to the newly-designed offices are met by a sepia imprint of W.K. Kellogg, the American industrialist who founded the company.
However, don’t be fooled by the nostalgic touches, this is a techenabled office designed for a millennial workforce – even doing away with landlines, favouring Skype to communicate externally.
Kellogg’s appointed local design specialists TSK to fit-out out their 46,000 sq ft pad late last year. And they haven’t disappointed on the cool office front with a self-service coffee bar, heavily discounted staff shop to stock up on breakfast treats and work pods with retracting roofs.
With a ‘no eating at desk policy,’ the 400-plus staff have a choice of dining areas, kitchens and social spaces to mingle, as well as bowls of free cereal to perk them up.
The cereal giant confirmed the relocation of its 420 UK office employees from its Manchester Old Trafford HQ, where it had resided since the 1990s, to Media CityUK in August.
The company moved into the shared building, home of ITV and Salford University, in January.
Kellogg’s UK and Ireland HR director, Sue Platt, said: “Our organisation has been through a lot of change and will continue to change.
“Today more than 50 per cent of our head count is millennial, therefore we needed a space that reflects the generational change in how people work.
“Kellogg’s is a people business – we needed a headquarters that reflected our culture, that ensured we retain our talent and enabled us to attract the best new talent.
“The office has moved us into the heart of the MediaCityUK community and enables our employees be inspired by our vibrant surroundings, bringing the outside in to our organisation.”
With meeting rooms named after prominent Manchester figures, including Emmeline Pankhurst, the HQ also boasts a testing kitchen for food innovation and a virtual reality supermarket to see how the products will look on display.
