Band’s ‘row’ blossoming

-

THEY’VE been trading blows on Twitter, leading to rumours of a rift in the Blossoms camp – or, more plausibly, a publicity stunt.

Now, appearing to confirm the latter theory, the Stockport band’s record label have set up a helpline for fans worried about them splitting up.

Virgin EMI tweeted: “Have recent rumoured fractures in @ BlossomsBand left you feeling confused? Helpless? We’re here for you.

“Call the free helpline now: +44 8082812482 #Help4Blossoms.”

Dialling the number leads to a voice message from guitarist Josh Dewhurst – and a teaser of what appears to be a new song.

“Hello? Hello? Ah sorry I didn’t hear you there,” answers Josh, whose bandmates Joe Donovan, the drummer, and frontman Tom Ogden are locked in the ‘spat’.

“You’ve called the helpline. To be honest I’ve been kept out of the loop on this one. Last to know, as per. C’est la vie. I’m probably not the best person to advise on this TBH. Not with my bloody nerves.

“Anyway, rest assured we have paid therapeutic professionals dealing with this fall-out. One of them’s been on This Morning twice and was booked for the Matthew Wright show but they had to pull out because of a dodgy belly. Anyway, I digress.

“Anyway, I want to reassure you it’s not over yet; I’m 50 per cent sure it will be fine. 50pc of the proceeds from this £10-aminute call will go to the relevant people. Hang on in there.”

Rumours of in-fighting were sparked by a video posted on Twitter by independent Manchester music blog Even The Stars UK, in which Joe accuses Tom of becoming a diva.

The pair have been trading increasingly silly insults since, leading fans to conclude it’s a publicity stunt for new music on the way. The Blossoms camp were staying tight-lipped about the track on the answerphone message when we contacted them yesterday. A spokesman said: “I’ve never heard it before.”
