Dale heroes focused on survival

- FOOTBALL

AFTER their FA Cup heroics against Spurs on Sunday, Rochdale must now focus on League One survival again for tonight’s clash with fellow strugglers MK Dons.

Keith Hill’s men earned a Wembley replay on Wednesday, February 28 against the north London Premier League giants, but Dale midfielder Andy Cannon says his team-mates need to start picking up points to climb off the foot of the table.

“Our main priority is to start winning in the league,” said Cannon.

“That’s (the Spurs result) a good confidence boost for us.

“We go again on Wednesday and we need the three points.” Meanwhile, Dale boss Hill says securing a date at Wembley against Tottenham could help fund his club for ‘two or three seasons.’ The prospect of a replay with the eight-time winners adds to a huge payday for the club, with Hill anticipating further windfall as interest converges on his players from bigger teams.

He said: “A lot of the money we’ve earned has gone into the pitch and that’s heavy investment.

“The rest will go into supporting the club for the next two or three seasons, along with the money we’ve got from selling Scott Hogan and Jamie Allan.

“There may be others in the summer, because we’ve got some good players who can play in the Championship and potentially the Premier League.”
