I think the FA Cup is heading for Old Trafford after shock

-

UNITED are the new 9/4 favourites at Betfred to win the FA Cup.

Rochdale’s 2-2 draw with Spurs was a fantastic advert for football – a fifth round result that sends the League One relegation battlers to Wembley for the replay next week.

And then 24 hours later Wigan – also from League One but at the other end of the table from Dale – stunned the football world by beating all-conquering City.

I just love the cup – the shocks, the tradition – and that’s despite Monday’s giantkilling act costing me more than £100,000.

Many Betfred punters had fivers and tenners on Paul Cook’s well-drilled team beating the City superstars 1-0 and that striker Will Grigg would open the scoring.

The odds on a 1-0 win were 40/1 and 12/1 that the Northern Ireland cult hero would be first on target.

I have already paid out before Christmas on City winning the Premier League, which is obviously well in the bag now – and they are favourites to win the EFL Cup final against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Blues are also in the driving seat in Europe, having beaten Basel 4-0.

But, as was proved at Wigan, anything can happen in the FA Cup.

They might have had 82 per cent possession, but the only stat that counted was how many times the ball hit the onion bag! I really did think City were going to land the Quad, and it is remarkable that they should come unstuck at a League One club.

This result will act as a spur to City to go for the treble. Betfred are 9/2 that they complete that, having been 125/1 back in August.

Behind United in our FA Cup odds are Tottenham 5/2, Chelsea 7/2, Leicester 8/1, Southampton 11/1, Brighton 25/1, Swansea 28/1, Wigan 50/1, Sheffield Wednesday 100/1 – and Rochdale 750/1.
