‘I’m no diva’ says Corrie star
CORONATION Street star Antony Cotton should be having a well-earned rest after skating off Dancing On Ice last night while nursing broken ribs.
But the soap star he has hit back to deny ‘diva’ claims after being slammed by former Strictly Come Dancing dancer James Jordan and singer Shane Nolan, the son of Loose Women panellist Coleen and former EastEnders actor Shane Richie.
The beef started when James tweeted: “Watching @dancingonice and Anthony (sic) Cotton just got destroyed by the judges but justifiably. Also, is it just me but he seems like he could be a right pain to work with. Doesn’t come across likeable at all.”
And Shane replied to say Antony had ‘refused to give people an autograph at a charity do I was at.’
Sharing Shane’s tweet, Antony, from Bury, hit back at the musician saying: “That isn’t true. I have never refused anyone an autograph, let alone at a charity event.”
And he responded to James’ tweet, saying: “Currently doing two jobs at the moment, so please don’t be worrying about my career. As for wondering what I’m like to work with, maybe take the guess work out and ask @YayIt’sBrandee? I don’t think you’ll find the answer you’re looking for. Trolls rarely do.”
Supporters rushed to back Antony, including comedian Justin Moorhouse who said: “Ignore ‘em mate. If there’s one thing you do it is more than your fair share of charity stuff. X”
And when Antony said “Indeed. Some people are just horrible though, aren’t they?!” Justin replied “Hard to ignore but you/we know the truth. Not worth the worry. Enjoy your ice free time x”
Antony, who performed with professional skater Brandee Malto on the ITV1 show, was eliminated in a shock double eviction on Sunday night with former Big Breakfast presenter Donna Air after performing to From New York to LA.
Two weeks ago Antony, who plays Sean Tully in Corrie, said ‘the show must go on’ after he broke two ribs in training.
He broke ribs at the front and back while falling backwards on the ice with Brandee but said he’d never rung in sick throughout his career and bosses would have to ‘stretcher him off’ before he left Dancing On Ice.
