14 Trafford teens handed bans

POLICE CONTRACTS STOP THEM FROM ENTERING CERTAIN AREAS IN THE BOROUGH

- By ALEXANDRA RUCKI

FOURTEEN teenagers have been issued with contracts preventing them from visiting areas in Trafford following a spate of anti-social behaviour.

The Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs) were handed out to the youngsters by police following complaints of a gang terrorising neighbourhoods in Altrincham, Hale, Sale and Timperley.

Police spoke with 14 of the teenagers and issued the contracts which prevents them from behaving in a certain manner, associating with specific people and attending various locations in the borough.

If the teenagers do not comply with the ABC they could be issued with an Anti-Social Behaviour Order.

Another three youngsters have been interviewed under caution by the police for robbery, assault and public order offences.

They have been referred to the youth offending team for further action.

Since January around 30 youths have reportedly committed assaults, robberies and have also been intimidating people living in the Trafford area. The yobs have also said to have been causing problems for people living on or close to the Metrolink line running through the borough.

The group have been linked to a robbery in Hale Town Centre on January 6, an assault in John Leigh Park, Altrincham, on January 8 and attack on a bus in Altrincham on Tuesday, January 9.

Sale West MP Sir Graham Brady urged police to ‘increase resources’ in the area after receiving complaints.

Greater Manchester Police in Trafford South posted on Facebook: “In relation to the recent spike in youth crime, due to action by Altrincham Neighbourhood Officers working in conjunction with the Youth Offending Team and Trafford Anti-Social Behaviour Officers, fourteen offenders have been identified and issued with Acceptable Behaviour Contracts.

“This prevents them from behaving in a certain manner, associating with certain individuals and attending specific locations.

“Also three youths have been interviewed under caution for Robbery, Assault and Public Order offences and referred to the Youth Offending Team for appropriate action to be taken.

“Since this intervention, the number of reported incidents of youth crime has significantly reduced.”
