Readers sad over demise of toy giant

-

READERS gave their thoughts on Facebook about Toys R Us after it was announced the troubled company – which has a store on Great Ancoats Street in Manchester – had gone into administration.

It’s actually pretty shocking walking round one of their stores. I could swear I’ve gone back to my childhood 20 years ago – as nice as that is, it’s not 1998 any more. Even their tills are historic, it’s laughable. Thanks for the memories many of us will have of going to buy the latest toys and games consoles. Josh Stankler

Sad. Our kids loved this place. We spent many a weekend up and down the aisles while they decided what to spend their money on. Samantha Jones

I spent my childhood being taken to the Toys R Us on Great Ancoats Street. Some precious memories of a time where I had what I thought was the perfect childhood. Such a shame. Laura Moores

I remember when Toys R Us first came to the UK. As a child it was every bit as magical as the adverts suggested it would be. Having visited several times as an adult, it has long looked a little sad and destitute. Dave Witham

I was in the Ancoats store and felt sorry for the staff. So many people asking where the sale was, they had only found out that day they were losing there jobs. Rebecca Stewart

Just sell iPads and you’ll stay in business, no kids want toys anymore. Allan Jones It was empty and sad before this. Samantha Jane
