Yobs punch bus driver then smash window with bottles

-

TEENAGERS punched a bus driver and smashed the vehicle’s windows with brandy bottles after they were challenged for not paying, commuters said.

The two troublemakers, believed to be around 15 or 16, boarded the 330 Stagecoach service on Stockport Road West, in Bredbury, Stockport, yesterday afternoon.

A passenger told how one of the boys handed an out-of-date bus pass to the driver, while the other just walked on without paying.

The young culprits then sat together on the top deck of the bus.

The driver reportedly switched the engine off and advised commuters he would not be moving until the two teenagers got off.

Both youths walked over to the driver’s cab and began punching him. At this point three passengers sitting on the bottom deck came over and managed to throw the teenagers off.

But the two boys returned a short time later and hurled a brick at the bus windscreen.

They then smashed it with brandy bottles they were carrying, causing large cracks and holes to form, witnesses said.

The two boys fled from the scene after police were called.

Passengers were placed on another bus, while some remained to give statements.

Police have launched an investigation into assault and criminal damage and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
