Box clever with a trip to Friska

-

HEALTHY fast food chain Friska is opening its first central Manchester site on St Peter’s Square.

The independent grab-and-go brand has made a name for itself in its native Bristol for its hot boxes, filled with everything from Lebanese meatballs to butternut and black bean dopiaza, as well as bao buns, pho noodle pots, burritos and wraps.

A range of soups, salads and sandwiches will also be available, along with cakes, pastries and speciality coffee and tea.

Breakfast boxes, including chorizo and eggs on toast and smoked salmon, avocado and kale, are also available in the mornings, along with overnight oats, muffins and toasties.

The new Manchester site, based in the Two St Peter’s Square development, will also feature produce from local suppliers.

Founders Griff Holland and Ed Brown say they are committed to sustainability, from the ingredients they use to the people they employ and the charities they partner with, such as Deki and Frank water. The business was named best ethical restaurant in the Observer Food Monthly Awards in 2014.

Ed said: “We are delighted to be chosen for this landmark development. I am looking forward to delivering our brand of ‘feel-good food’ to the commuters and workers of St Peter’s Square and the wider Manchester city centre community.”

The pair launched the first Friska in Bristol in 2009 and it now has seven branches in the city as well as one at Manchester Science Park, in the Bright Building. There is also a concession at Luton airport.

The St Peter’s Square branch opens on March 12.
