Police search woods after reports of ‘body found’

-

POLICE were searching a wooded area last night following reports of a body being found.

Paramedics and firefighters also arrived at an area on the Stockport and Tameside border.

GMP said a report of a body being found had been made. Late last night, no body had been discovered.

Emergency services were seen along Stockport Road in Denton, where it turns into Ashton Road in neighbouring Bredbury, from around 7pm.

At its height, four fire engines, six ambulance service vehicles and a number of police vans were seen at the side of the road.

The area, near Hulmes Wood Nature Reserve, consists of fields and woodland, with the River Tame also running through.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers are currently responding to reports that a body has been found near to Ashton Road in Bredbury. “Enquiries are ongoing.” No more details have been released.

The M.E.N. understands emergency services were trying to verify reports, but given the location and time of day, the operation proved difficult.

Witnesses said officers and firefighters were seen walking in and out of the wooded area. There were crime scene investigation officers present, according to onlookers, and the fire service drone could be seen hovering overhead.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) aid: “An incident is ongoing on Stockport Road in Denton.

“The GMRS, along with an addition crew from Eccles, are assisting police with an investigation.”
