Radio role has made me so happy, says Roxanne

-

FORMER Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallett has revealed she finally feels “valued and fulfilled” after turning her back on acting to get away from the “fickle and ridiculous” side of the showbiz industry.

And now, in her new role as a radio DJ, she feels she has found her true calling.

Roxanne revealed last month how she was planning to “change gear” in her career, which has previously seen Roxy star on the stage and screen in a variety of roles as well as on entertainment shows including Dancing On Ice.

But she firmly believes that if you’re not happy with something, you should change it - which led to the new direction for the 35-year-old star.

She told The Diary she’s been overwhelmed by the support she has received from fans and friends.

Talking about the acting business, she said: “I felt like an uninvited guest at a party. I was sick of feeling invisible and creatively starved so I made a decision to change gear which I’d hope most people would do if they were unhappy.

“I’m exactly where I’m meant to be now and I feel valued and creatively fulfilled in broadcasting with my own radio show on Minster FM. I actually jump out of bed on a morning and look forward to the day. Even as early as 5am! I’ve wanted to do this for a while. I feel like I’ve been unhappy and unfulfilled over the past few years, and if you’re not happy with something in your life, be it a relationship or career, you should change things.”

Carlisle-raised Roxanne admits that she was unhappy with many aspects of the industry facing a woman - including being harassed, told to change the way she looks and fighting for equality.

She said:“I woke up one morning and thought I don’t need to do this. You’re not here to do one thing in your life, you’re here to find what you’re happy with.”
