£7m sports centre opens

A NEW £7m sports centre has been officially opened.

The Brinnington Park Leisure Complex, in Stockport, boasts a gym, aerobics studio, community room, boxing gym, sports hall and 3G football pitch.

It will be run by Life Leisure and has been built as part of Stockport council’s Brinnington Masterplan, which also has work to build 280 new homes well under way.

The centre will replace the old, outdated one on Lapwing Lane. And it is seen as a key step in improving health inequalities in Brinnington.

Coun Sheila Bailey, executive member for communities, said: “I’m thrilled with the new leisure complex in Brinnington and I’m positive that local people will be able to enjoy high quality and affordable facilities.”
