Drunk passenger arrested after jet turns back
A PLANE was forced to turn round in mid-air and go back to Manchester Airport after a ‘drunken’ passenger started causing trouble.
The Ryanair jet, which was bound for Tenerife, made the about-turn after the 45-year-old man became ‘disruptive’.
Once back at Manchester, police boarded the plane to arrest the man and he was led away to cheers. Others on the 9pm flight were given overnight accommodation before being flown to Tenerife the following morning.
A Ryanair spokesman said: “We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority.”
A Manchester Airport spokesman has confirmed the flight returned but declined to comment further saying it was a matter for Ryanair and police.
Police have appealed for other passengers to come forward with their account of what happened. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 2329 of 08/03/18, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
