Man found badly hurt after being stabbed in the chest

A MAN was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being stabbed in the chest in Tameside.

The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was discovered by police and ambulance crews on Market Avenue in Ashton town centre, just after 7am yesterday.

It is not yet clear exactly where the incident took place.

An area close to Bar 15, on George Street, was reportedly taped off as part of the investigat­ion.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a police presence on Whitelands Road, near to Alexandra Park, was also linked to the incident.

The spokesman said: “At around 7am on Monday, 12 March, police were called to reports of an assault on Market Avenue in Ashton-under-Lyne.

“Officers attended and found a man in his thirties with a stab wound who was taken to hospital for treatment of his serious injuries.

“Enquiries into the full circumstan­ces around this incident are ongoing.”

The North West Ambulance Service said they took the victim to Manchester Royal Infirmary with a chest wound.
