Devils lose hero to the Wolfpack

MILLION Pound Game hero Gareth O’Brien has left Salford to join the Toronto Wolfpack.

The 26-year-old fullback was left out of the Red Devils’ 17 defeated by Castleford on Sunday amid speculation he may be set to leave the club.

And the departure was confirmed – subject to RFL approval – yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, Salford revealed they received an offer for O’Brien from the Wolfpack late last week and that, when made aware of the interest, the player initially informed the club that he did not want to leave.

”This offer was turned down,” said the statement.

However, O’Brien’s representatives subsequently requested permission to speak to Paul Rowley’s side.

The statement continued: “The Red Devils, while disappointed, granted appropriate permission.”
