Uma takes over starring role in artist’s mural
SPRAY PAINTING OF ACTRESS REPLACES KEVIN SPACEY IMAGE AFTER ALLEGATIONS
A MURAL depicting Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey, who has been accused of harassing young men, has been covered over with an image of screen star Uma Thurman.
The striking image of Thurman – as the protagonist in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill – has been meticulously spray-painted on a wall in Burnage.
It depicts Thurman as bloodspattered assassin ‘The Bride,’ who embarks on a ‘roaring rampage of revenge’ against her attackers.
By taking pride of place on a brick wall close to Kingsway, the image will be visible to the hundreds of commuters who pass it each day.
Thurman recently made allegations of abuse against former Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein.
The actress last month alleged Weinstein assaulted her at a London hotel in the 1990s, but that she’d managed to ‘wriggle away.’
Weinstein, 65, denies her claims and allegations of non-consensual sex made against him by other women.
Actress Thurman is a supporter of the ‘Me Too’ movement, which highlights allegations of sexual harassment.
The mural depicting the actor in her famous yellow jumpsuit has been painted on the side of accountancy firm Nurbhai and Co Accountants, on Mauldeth Road.
Street artist Akse, whose impressive images are known throughout the city, used Thurman’s image to replace that of Spacey, who said he would seek ‘treatment’ after dozens of allegations of inappropriate behaviour were made against him.
Akse, who also created the famous David Bowie mural in Stephenson Square, completed the portrait of Spacey as scheming House of Cards character Frank Underwood in 2015.
But earlier this year, following the allegations, he confirmed his intentions to replace it with another piece.
