New street, new characters and plenty of drama

-

WITH an expanded set unveiled this week, we can expect plenty of new dramas to unfold on Coronation Street, according to the soap’s boss Kate Oates.

A newly-extended Victoria Street, which includes a Costa coffee, a tattoo parlour, police station, tram stop and street food restaurant, will bring with it NEW characters and explosive storylines in the weeks ahead.

Cast and crew began filming on the new set this week, with the full Victoria Street to be seen on screen for the first time on Friday, April 20.

And series producer Kate says she is planning something special with the first moments on the new street.

She said: “I’ve spoken to the director and I’ve said I’m tempted to go a little big on it. It’s going to be exciting.

“We started storylining this area a few months ago, it will feel very familiar and organic and, hopefully, it will just feel like it’s always been here.

“What’s nice about having the extra space is that it gives a space for our stories to breathe in a whole new precinct.”

Kate has revealed there will be two NEW characters joining the street to bring trouble into the lives of Weatherfield’s residents.

She said: “We’ll be making good use of the cast we’ve got, there’s no plans for whole new families just yet but we have got new characters. We have someone called Kayla working at Speed Dahl [the new curry house] she’s going to create problems for Bethany and Craig. We have Emma, she’s going to be in the salon causing trouble for David and Maria.

“Generally we’ll be using the space with our existing cast, we’re six episodes a week now, we need the space to spread out and that’s what this facility will do.”
