Be at heart of the city’s celebration
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP STAGE MANCHESTER DAY WHEN HUGE PROCESSION IS WATCHED BY THOUSANDS
YOU can be part of the Manchester Day celebrations by volunteering for the event.
Manchester Day will return on Sunday, June 17 when tens of thousands of people will fill the streets for a huge party, celebrating this year’s theme: The Word On The Street.
There are hundreds of opportunities to be part of the event and organisers are looking for enthusiastic people to play a key role in helping to bring the streets of Manchester alive with a spectacle of colour, music and performance.
Opportunities include creative roles both in the run up to Manchester Day and on the day of the event, helping top artists create the incredible costumes, artworks, structures and props that will transform the city centre in June.
Before the day, you can volunteer as much or as little as you like, from a few hours to a few weeks and the experience will give you the opportunity to work with established carnival artists with a hands-on involvement in creating the Manchester Day spectacle.
On the day, volunteers can also help communicate with the Manchester Day crowds, handing out programmes and answering any queries people have about the event.
There are also creative roles on the day where you can play a vital role in preparing the parade, helping groups with floats and accessories and directing participants to their positions. You can also be part of the parade itself or help bring the city centre squares alive supporting the performances and installations.
Coun Pat Karney, chair of Manchester Day, said: “Manchester Day’s success relies on the passion and enthusiasm of the thousands of Manchester Day celebrations people who come together for the weeks leading up to, and on the day of, this huge celebration.”
Liz Pugh, creative producer of Walk The Plank, said: “This simply couldn’t happen without our fantastic army of volunteers who sign up to be part of this amazing feel-good experience. Whether you’re young or old, we want volunteers who can bring their enthusiasm to making yet another Manchester Day an unforgettable day out.”
