Cook warns Aces to prepare for hot reception at Swindon

- SPEEDWAY By HAYLEY BROMLEY

CRAIG Cook is targeting a big performance in the second leg of Belle Vue’s Charity Shield clash against Swindon tonight after dusting off the cobwebs at the National Speedway Stadium on Monday.

The British Champion was happy to come away from his first meeting as the Rentruck Aces’ new No.1 with 7+1 from his four rides, but insists there’s much more to come.

Belle Vue showed a great deal of potential in their season opener, from which they take a six-point advantage to the Abbey Stadium tonight, where they hope to clinch their first silverware of 2018.

Cook said: “We have a very capable team with a lot of knowledge, and the Abbey Stadium is a place we all like to ride and have had some great meetings there.

“We’ve every chance of hitting Swindon as hard as they hit us on Monday. It was an epic meeting and it’s not over yet, and I know the lads are as keen as I am to finish the job.

“I’m sure (Swindon manager) Alun Rossiter will make sure his boys are fired up for this so we’re taking nothing for granted. We know we’re going to have to give it our all to get the result we want.”

There’s more action at the National Speedway Stadium this week with Belle Vue’s 90th Anniversary Celebration, featuring the Peter Craven Memorial, on Saturday. Steve Worrall and Cook will face off against some of the biggest names in the sport, including world champion Jason Doyle, Niels-Kristian Iversen and Matej Zagar.
