Police nab offender who made run for it

-

POLICE officers have been praised for pouncing on a suspected dangerous driver who went on the run.

The offender fled on foot after crashing a car on Manchester Road near the junction with Sandiway Place, Altrincham, yesterday morning.

The man hid in gardens but was soon surrounded by police officers.

He then made another run for it – before being caught by officers and police dogs.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and dangerous driving.

GMP Trafford South, sharing the news on Facebook, said: “Excellent arrest by officers from Altrincham who had responded to reports of a road traffic collision on Manchester Road at its junction with Sandiway Place.

“On arrival a male made off from the offending vehicle. The offender went to ground in nearby gardens and officers quickly had the area contained. However, the male decided to make another run for it! But our speedy officers gave chase and detained him. He is now en route to custody.

“Thank you to colleagues from Stretford and the dog unit who came to assist.”
