A FIRE spread to four terrace houses in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Firefighters were called to Enfield Street in Hyde at 1.30am after the blaze started in the roof of one of the properties.

Six fire engines were called to the scene, where they found two families had escaped their homes.

Neighbouring houses were also evacuated as a precaution, and residents have since been allowed back inside, a post on the Manchester Fire website said.

The post said: “At 1.31am on Friday, March 23, firefighters were called to a large fire involving the roof space of a corner terrace house on Enfield Street in Hyde.

“Six fire engines attended the fire, which had spread to three neighbouring properties.

“Firefighters used eight breathing apparatus, three hose reels, one jet and the hydraulic platform to bring the fire under control.

“Residents of two occupied homes had safely evacuated before the fire service arrived. Neighbouring residents were also evacuated as a precaution.”
