POLICE want to speak to a man in connection with a sickening attack on two friends in a town centre pub.

One of the victims was left with a broken jaw and bite marks on his cheek - and the other was hit with a glass and punched and kicked to the floor during the assault in Brambles in Bury.

Detectives say both men were left ‘extremely shaken’ by the apparently unprovoked attack.

It began when a 34-year-old man was hit with a glass.

As he then tried to make his way to the toilet he was punched and kicked to the floor.

His 35-year-old friend attempted to help him, but was thrown to the floor before being punched and kicked unconscious.

He was left with a broken jaw and a gash on his cheek which police say is ‘consistent with a bite mark.’

His injuries required specialist treatment in hospital and he is now said to be recovering at home.

The attackers ran off towards Broad Street before police arrived.

Officers have now released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place at 12.50am on Sunday, January 28, and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. Det Con Andrew Beanland said: “In what appears to have been an unprovoked attack, a man was left requiring specialist treatment in hospital which is something that will not only have a big impact on his life but has left both him and his friend extremely shaken. “I appreciate the images we’ve released aren’t of the best quality but it’s so important that anyone who recognises the man we want to speak to or has any information or witness accounts gets in touch with us.

“Even the smallest piece of information could really help our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 91 and also the date of 28/01/2018, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
