Naylor not happy with Oldham despite victory

- RUGBY LEAGUE By TOM BRAMWELL

OLDHAM boss Scott Naylor was disappointed in his side’s performance against North Wales Crusaders at the weekend, despite recording a 30-2 victory.

The former England centre believes it ranks among Roughyeds’ “worst displays for a long time” noting the need for improvement ahead of the Good Friday clash with league leaders Bradford.

He said: “A win’s a win. It’s nice to pick up the two points as well. You’ve got to be happy when you win, but it wasn’t a performance we could be proud of.

“The game didn’t have any continuity and we seemed unsure at the ruck about what the match officials wanted, or didn’t want.

“When we got any decent field position we made a lot of errors which meant we didn’t put Crusaders under any sustained pressure.

“For a lot of the game we played in second gear and that allowed Crusaders to stay in the game for much longer than we would have liked. We had a chat at halftime and played with more structure in the second half.”

With three wins from three, promotion rivals Bradford will be on a high when they visit on Friday.

Naylor added: “It’s my job to sort out the things that need putting right as we strive to take on Bradford Bulls and then play Hunslet, Keighley and Hull KR in the cup.

“We’ve a lot of work to do.”
