A ‘MOB’ from Scotland that hired a limousine to travel to Manchester to see AC/DC battered a father and son after flying into a drunken rage when they spotted them touching the vehicle.

Stuart and Liam Kelly were attacked after leaving the Australian rock band’s gig at the Etihad Stadium in June 2016.

As they searched for their pre-booked taxi, they came across a limousine hired by Calvin Cox, Steven Gordon, Jon Johnston and Gary Mullen, who had travelled to Manchester from Aberdeenshire for the concert.

The limo driver had been unable to park where he dropped the men off because of road closures, so met them near the stadium and walked them back to the vehicle.

Manchester Crown Court heard that when they got to the car park, off Alan Turing Way in Beswick, the men saw Mr Kelly and his son, from Northwich, ‘admiring’ the limo.

Prosecutors said Liam, 23, had his hand on the roof, and his dad, 53, was sat on the bonnet.

Gordon and Johnston approached Liam, swore at him and punched him in the face, knocking his glasses off.

The pair carried on punching him in the head and body, the court head.

Mr Kelly tried to jump in and defend his son, but was hit and knocked to the ground by Gordon and Johnson.

Cox, 27, and Mullen, 45, then started stamping on Mr Kelly and kicking him in the head. Gordon, 41, and Johnston, 28, continued to kick and stamp on Liam as he lay unconscious on the floor. It was only when the limo driver intervened and pulled the men away that the attack ended. Mr Kelly suffered a fractured cheekbone and had to have a metal plate inserted. Liam was unconscious for about 15 minutes, and suffered cuts to his head and lip. Both said they had no recollection of the attack. Cox, Johnston, Gordon and Mullen - who were all drunk at the time - have now been jailed. Gordon, of Prunier Drive, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. Johnston, of Captain Grey Place, Peterhead, was sentenced to two years and six months. Cox and Mullen, both of Prunier Drive, Peterhead, were both jailed for two years and two months. All four defendants pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm. Gordon and Johnson admitted common

also assault. Judge Martin Steiger QC told them: “This was an outrageous incident of mob-handed violence against two innocent men. Hooliganism of this sort at public events will not be tolerated.”

After the case, the father and son told the M.E.N. of their ordeal.

Businessman Mr Kelly said: “It happened that quickly, I have got no recollection of it. Thankfully, people who saw what happened stayed with us until the ambulance turned up.”
