Shoppers hide from robbers

-

SHOPPERS were forced to hide under desks after robbers in balaclavas ripped mobile phones from the walls of Carphone Warehouse.

The raid took place at a branch inside the Crown Point Retail Park, on Ashton Road, Denton, on Tuesday night.

Three men burst into the shop and began pulling mobile phones down from the display.

It is also understood they took iPads and other tablets.

Terrified customers leapt for safety under desks while the men carried out the robbery.

Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A witness, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “The men ripped all of the phones from off the wall.

“They were real mobile phones and iPads and everything. My daughter grabbed my son and hid behind a desk. It was terrifying for them because the men had balaclavas on.

“Another couple were in there and hid behind a desk.”

A spokeswoman for GMP said: “We were called just before 8.20pm yesterday to reports of a robbery at the Crown Point shopping park.

“It looks like three men have gone in and stolen some mobile phones.”

Any witnesses or anyone with further information can call GMP on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 quoting log number 2013/March 27.
