Shorrocks joins Salford to strengthen spine of team

- RUGBY LEAGUE BY TOM BRAMWELL

SALFORD have brought in young halfback Jake Shorrocks on an initial one-month loan deal from Wigan.

The 22-year-old made 12 appearances in the Warriors’ 2016 Super League campaign, but then suffered a serious knee injury that ruled him out for the 2017 season.

He joins the Red Devils at a time when the busy Easter period is likely to stretch what is a small squad.

”Jake is a quality young British half who featured heavily in Wigan’s first team a couple of years ago, until his cruciate ligament injury unfortunately cut it short,” said Salford boss Ian Watson.

“He is now looking to build his reputation back up following this injury spell. With us being short and needing some competition in the halves and spine of the team it gives us another option.“

Shorrocks joined the club too late to be included in the squad for the lunchtime kick-off against Catalans Dragons at the AJ Bell Stadium today, but will travel with the squad to face Leeds Rhinos on Easter Monday.

Tyrone McCarthy also misses out on the chance to take on the Dragons having picked up a knock towards the end of last week’s defeat against Widnes Vikings.

However, Luke Burgess is fit to replace him in the only change to Ian Watson’s 19-man squad.

SWINTON LIONS have Macauley Davies available from dual-registration partners Wigan for their home clash with Leigh at Heywood Road today.

Pat Moran is included in ROCHDALE’S squad for their trip to Sheffield to take on the Eagles.

OLDHAM take on Bradford Bulls at the Vestacare Stadium this evening.
