Caught on camera... shocking hit and run ordeal of pensioner
SHOCKING IMAGES SHOW MAN, 77, CLINGING TO BONNET AFTER VEHICLE HAD CRASHED INTO HIS PARKED CAR
THESE images show the horrific moment a hit-and-run driver mowed down a pensioner after he remonstrated with him for crashing into his parked car.
CCTV has captured the 77-year-old victim desperately clinging to the bonnet of the silver Kia Venga as it speeds along the street.
Detectives have called for witnesses to the ‘appalling’ crime to come forward.
Moments before the incident, the Kia had smashed into the pensioner’s Chevrolet Kalos which was parked in a disabled space outside his home on Chatsworth Road in Gorton.
As the elderly victim walks outside to speak to the driver, the Kia reverses into another parked car.
The pensioner then stands in front of the car seemingly gesticulating at the driver, who suddenly accelerates and hits him.
The pensioner can be seen putting his hands on the bonnet, before being flipped up onto it as the car speeds off.
After managing to hold on for several yards, he then falls off onto the road.
The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries to his arms, legs and torso.
Police have released CCTV footage of the ‘appalling’ incident, which took place at about 4.10pm on Saturday, March 10, and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
Det Con Jason Bell said: “This was an appalling incident and I find it completely disgusting that the offender sped off, leaving the man lay in the road.
“He showed no regard for the safety of the victim who had simply asked the man to stop after hitting his car.
“Not only did the driver fail to stop after a collision, but he seriously endangered the life of a man with his reckless actions.
“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please get in touch so we can find the man responsible.”
A GMP spokesman confirmed: “Shortly after 4.10pm on Saturday 10 March 2018, police were called to Chatsworth Road to reports that a car had collided with a man.
“A 77-year-old man had been in his home when he saw a silver Kia Venga collide with his Chevrolet Kalos which was parked in a disabled space. The man went outside to ask the driver to stop, but instead he reversed in to a second parked car before driving at the man and lifting him on to his car.
“The driver then sped along the road while the victim hung off the bonnet and as the man fell to the road, the driver continued in the direction of Sunnybrow Road.
“The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.”
