Pete tweets for first time since cancelling tour

BOLTON comedy star Peter Kay has made his first public statement since cancelling his huge stand-up tour. Peter has spoken in support of a new charity screening of his hit comedy Car Share which will raise funds for a cause close to his heart.

The Phoenix Nights icon said he was “proud to raise awareness and much needed funds” for The Lily Foundation in supporting the special event.

Manchester’s SJM Concerts announced the event is to be held on Saturday, April 7 at Blackpool Opera House.

Four episodes of the BAFTAAward winning Car Share will be screened, including the premiere of two brand new episodes; ‘Car Share: Unscripted’ and the highly anticipated series finale.

Peter, 44, said: “The Lily Foundation is an inspiring charity that helps to improve the lives of children with Mitochondrial Disease.

“I’ve had first-hand experience of the Foundation’s work and I’m proud to raise both awareness and much needed funds to help with the inspiring work they provide to children and their families”.

Tickets, priced at £12, will go on sale tomorrow at 9am, and will be limited to a maximum of six per person. All profits from the show will be donated to The Lily Foundation, which funds research and raises awareness into the incurable mitochondrial disease.

The news of the show was revealed on Peter’s official twitter the first such tweet from the account since November.

It prompted huge excitement among fans who were delighted to hear from the star. Peter cancelled his UK tour in November due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

In a statement to fans at the time he said: “My sincerest apologies.

“The decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.

“I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media.

“I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. “Once again, I’m very sorry.” Car Share on the BBC was a huge hit with fans, following the lives of John (played by Kay) and Kayleigh (Sian Gibson) and their car journey to work.

Although the second series left fans dismayed that John and Kayleigh appeared to be parting forever.

A special finale episode had been promised last year, and it appears fans may well get their first look at the upcoming charity event in Blackpool.
