MOTHER OF RAPE-VICTIM SCHOOLGIRL TELLS OF TERRIBLE IMPACT ON HER FAMILY – AS ATTACKER CALLED ‘DIRTY JACK’ IS LOCKED UP

A RAPIST who called himself ‘Dirty Jack’ has been jailed by a judge who heard harrowing testimony from his teenage victim’s mother on how the crime has devastated their family.

Joseph Raybould, 21, was on bail for trying to make a schoolgirl his online ‘slave’ when he attacked another teenager at a party.

As the youngster was drunkenly sick in the toilet, Raybould raped her, leaving her deeply traumatised.

Now Raybould has been locked up at Manchester Crown Court.

His victim’s mother told the court: “(My daughter) has tried to commit suicide twice. She’s had counselling because she’s going over and over it.

“She gets dressed up to go out but doesn’t end up going out because she’s thinking people are following her.

“She has panic attacks. It’s had a huge effect on the family.”

Raybould, of Baycliffe Walk, Cheetham Hill, was jailed for five years and eight months after he admitted rape.

He also admitted inciting a child to engage in sexual activity after setting up a Skype account as ‘Dirty Jack.’

He had persuaded a schoolgirl to accept his Facebook friend request, saying he was 13 and called Ted Jones.

He then moved the chat onto Skype – using the name ‘Dirty Jack 14’ – where he threatened to kill himself or call the police unless she exposed herself to him over the internet.

Raybould told his victim: “I have hacked your phone and I took video and pictures and unless you do exactly as I say I will post them all over the internet. Reply back and say you will be my slave.”

As well as sending her a lewd picture, he terrorised her with a message saying: “You don’t know me but I know you. I have been watching you through your camera. I hacked it using software known as malware which allows me to see everything you do.

“Unless you do exactly as I say I’m going to post everything on the deep web for all your friends and family to see within minutes.”

He was on bail for that offence when he attacked the second victim at a party where she was sick and vulnerable after drinking vodka and shots. Joseph Raybould

Prosecutor Adam Lodge told the court: “She pulled away and told him to stop. He did not stop, however, and he pulled her back towards him.”

The victim told a friend about the rape but she wasn’t believed and Raybould denied it.

She only admitted what had happened to her mother when she was taken to hospital after self-harming a few months later.

Defending Raybould, who had a previous offence inciting a child under 13 to watch a sexual act but had escaped with a caution, Nicola Gatto said: “He set up a fake profile in order to attract younger girls to engage in sexual activity.

“He’s not shied away from that. In effect, because of the distance with which one engages people in the internet, he feels there’s an element of de-personalisation and that’s emboldened him.

“He does find it difficult to engage with matched peers because he does feel intimidated, which is why he’s trying to engage girls that are much younger than himself.”

She said her client had shown ‘obvious remorse’ and wanted to change.

Referring to the rape, Judge Michael Leeming said: “It seems to me she was vunerable for a number of reasons.

“Firstly because of her age and secondly she was vulnerable because of the drink she had consumed and you were aware of that even if you didn’t ply her with drink or buy the vodka or encourage her to drink. You were certainly present when the victim was consuming a large quantity of drink and, importantly, the effect of that drink upon her would have been readily apparent to you.”

Speaking directly to the defendant, the judge continued: “You said the victim was a liar.

“Of course, she was telling the truth and the only person who lied here is you.”
