Footballer ‘swallowed his tongue’

-

A FOOTBALL match was abandoned after a player slid off the pitch head first into a perimeter barrier.

Trafford FC striker Danny Frost reportedly swallowed his tongue in the sickening collision and began to fit.

The club praised the prompt actions of assistant referee Zharir Mustafa, who ran over to give Danny immediate first aid.

They said his actions, combined with the efforts of others who rushed to help, ‘undoubtedly prevented an unthinkable outcome’.

An air ambulance was called during Trafford’s game with Colwyn Bay in north Wales on Saturday.

Danny’s head and body were supported on the pitch before the 29-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he had a brain scan. The club said on Twitter he was given the ‘all clear’ to return home late on Saturday evening.

The incident happened in the 62nd minute of Trafford’s Evo-Stik North game following a coming together of three players.

The match was immediately called off by the referee.

Danny tweeted later: “Words can’t describe how grateful I am and overwhelmed with all your messages.

“I’d like to thank everyone @ColwynBayFC & @FCTrafford, stewards fans and officials for everything you did today #NonLeagueFootball #Thankful #much.”

Trafford also praised Jake North, a sports rehabilitation graduate at the club, Colwyn Bay juniors coach Danny McGoona and all staff from the Welsh side.
