You’re going to see a big performance - Frampton

CARL Frampton admits he will have to make big improvements when he faces Nonito Donaire next weekend.

Frampton, who is trained by Jamie Moore at his gym in Astley, faces Donaire for the interim WBO featherweight title at the SSE Arena in Belfast on April 21.

Frampton heads into the fight with Donaire on the back of a unanimous decision win against Horacio Garcia in November.

Some onlookers criticised Frampton for that performance, but the 31-year-old says he has a lot more to offer and will show that against Donaire.

“I got the win against Garcia and that was the most important thing, but I know I will definitely need to improve on that fight when I face Donaire,” he said.

“I was labouring a bit towards the end and that did seem to give a few others at my weight a bit of confidence, and that has happened to me before.

“The Scott Quigg fight finally came about because, in my fight before, I got dropped by Alejandro Gonzalez.

“So sometimes these fights are a blessing in disguise because people who maybe aren’t so interested in having a dust-up then see a bit of a lacklustre performance and make their own assessments.

“All of a sudden, fights are easier to make. For me, though, there is a lot more to give and, as I said to the boys in the gym earlier, I think you are going to see a big performance.”
