Stabbed girl, 15, remains in hospital

A TEENAGE girl remained in hospital yesterday after being stabbed in Oldham.

The 15-year-old was attacked on an industrial area on West End Street, near the town centre, on Monday afternoon.

Police she was with a friend when she was stabbed twice at around 4.15pm. The attacker fled down Middleton Road.

The young victim was rushed to hospital by paramedics after being knifed in the torso.

Detectives are treating the attack as ‘an isolated incident’ and believe there is ‘no wider risk to the community’.

Yesterday, officers said she remained in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 15-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault and was taken into custody for questionin­g.

Det Insp John Haywood of GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “This will understand­ably be worrying for people in the local area, but we are treating this as an isolated incident and believe it bears no wider risk to the community. This assault has left a teenager with serious injuries to her stomach.

“Although we’ve made an arrest, we still need to hear from people that may have seen the assault, or with informatio­n that could help our enquiries.”
