Dog mauls robber who attacked woman, 87

-

A HERO dog jumped in to rescue its elderly owner by biting a violent intruder on the arm when he attacked her in her garden.

The thug had smacked the 87-year-old woman on the head with a wooden stick when she opened her gate to him, before grabbing her neck.

The intruder ran away after the dog intervened and bit him, meaning the woman escaped with minor injuries.

Detectives investigating the case said the situation could have been ‘much worse’ if the loyal pet didn’t pounce to scare away the robber.

The victim had been ‘enjoying a spring afternoon in her garden’ in Little Hulton, Salford, when she heard the man shouting over her fence.

When she opened the gate, he hit her over the head with the stick, knocking her to the ground.

The thug, who had a dragon’s tail tattoo stretching from his forearm to his finger, grabbed her round the neck, shouting ‘give me your jewels’.

Sensing his owner was in danger, the dog leapt to her defence and bit the man on the arm.

The suspect, who wore a dark hoodie and dark trousers, then ran away from the home, on Spa Lane.

The offender was described as white and about 5ft 5ins. He was roughly 25-years-old, with dark stubble.

The attack happened at 4pm on Tuesday, March 13, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.
