-

FANS can now vote for their favourites at this year’s British Soap Awards after bosses officially announced the longlist of nominations for best actress and actor.

Voting has now opened for these categories as well as the allimportant Best Soap Prize, with Coronation Street battling it out with EastEnders, Emmerdale, Doctors and Hollyoaks.

Competing in the best actor category are Corrie’s Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, Shayne Ward, who plays Aidan Connor, and Connor McIntyre, whose fearsome character Pat Phelan was recently revealed as being the soap’s resident serial killer.

Jack has had viewers in floods of tears with his portrayal of David, who is struggling to come to terms with being raped by his friend Josh Tucker, while Shayne’s kindhearted character Aidan recently donated a kidney to his ailing sister, Carla.

In the best actress category are Bhavna Limbachia, who has won high praise for her role as Rana Nazir, who left her husband Zeedan distraught after falling in love with best friend Kate Connor.

Also on the list are Catherine Tyldesley, who is leaving the ITV1 show this summer after playing Eva Price for seven years, and Lucy Fallon, who scooped the Best Serial Drama Performance gong at the National Television Awards in January for her role as Bethany Platt. A delighted Lucy, who joined the soap in 2015, tweeted: “Can’t believe I have been shortlisted for an NTA :’( thank you so much.”

And Cath, from Walkden, Salford, said: “Beyond chuffed with my nomination!!!”
