Flying winger overwhelmed by Premier title success

- By CHARLOTTE DUNCKER

LEROY Sane has described the feeling of winning the Premier League with City as overwhelming, although he wished the Blues could have done it by winning themselves rather than their rivals losing.

City won their third league title after United fell to defeat against bottom of the table West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

Having won against Tottenham, City’s players were given days off – which meant they were scattered around the world when the news of their glory was confirmed.

While Vincent Kompany, Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva and others hit the town in Manchester, Sane was back in Germany enjoying his time off.

And the City attacker couldn’t believe it had happened.

“It’s an overwhelming feeling to become champions in the best league of the world that early,” he told German news agency SID.

“Of course, we would have liked to do it with our own match but you don’t want to complain about the timing with such a title. We all can be very proud of our achievement.”

City matched the Premier League record of the earliest title win, winning the trophy with five games of the season left, matching United’s record in 2001.

Sane has been instrumental to City’s success this season, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists, and has been recognised for his top level performances by being nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

“Being nominated is a nice recognition for my performance this season. David (Silva) and Kevin (De Bruyne) played a strong season, too, as many of us have,” he said.
