Aces boss frustrated as Belle Vue take no points from Stars

- SPEEDWAY By HAYLEY BROMLEY

IT was another close encounter for Belle Vue last night, this time against Premiership rivals King’s Lynn who took maximum points from their 53-37 win, while the visitors left empty-handed.

Both teams made a consistent start with the Stars establishing a two-point lead just three races in, but they were unable to capitalise any further thanks to a strong Rentruck Aces offence.

A lengthy deadlock ensued until Belle Vue broke the stalemate in Heat 8 with a 4-2 to draw level with the home team, before they returned the compliment and set to work extending their lead.

The Rentruck Aces were unable to claim even a consolation point for their efforts after a triple King’s Lynn 5-1 following the interval all but sealed the meeting in favour of the Tru Plant Stars.

Dan Bewley continued his dynamic start to the season by top scoring with 12 for the Mancunians while acting captain Max Fricke contributed 8+2 and No.1 Craig Cook added 7 to their tally.

Team boss Mark Lemon said: “It was very much a meeting of two halves for us.

“We managed to keep the Stars in check early doors but then later on they found some form and powered away.

“Nights like these are frustrating because it’s hard to pinpoint where we went wrong. A few of the boys struggled, then Max blowing an engine and Craig sliding off in Heat 11 was quite bizarre.

“But again, the season is still in its infancy. We’re three league meetings in and there’s a long road ahead. We’ve just got to put this one behind us now and focus on the next meeting on Monday.” Meanwhile, the Belle Vue Colts have three riders in the British Under-21 Final after Jack Smith, Kyle Bickley and Joe Lawlor all qualified with final scores in excess of 10 points from five rides.

The Cool Running Colts are at home to Buxton in the NL KOC on April 20 before heading to High Edge on Sunday, while the Rentruck Aces are back at the NSS against Rye House on April 23.

Tickets for both Belle Vue home fixtures are now on sale at www.bellevueaces.co and at the stadium box office on race night.
