Team-mates thinking of Romero

- By CIARAN KELLY

UNITED players do not need much added motivation come 5.15pm today. Wembley. An FA Cup final place up for grabs. The chance to atone for that awful display in Spurs’ back yard back in January.

But you can bet that Sergio Romero’s plight will be on a number of his team-mates’ minds. The 31-year-old would probably have gotten a rare run-out at England’s national stadium had he not picked up a nasty injury on international duty last month, and his team-mates will be desperate to get to the final for him, too.

By May 19, Romero should be in contention for a starting place against Chelsea or Southampton – if United get there.

The Argentine is the only United player on the treatment table at the moment.

Romero may have avoided serious bone or ligament damage when he collided with Diego Costa last month, but the prognosis was not great for his Wembley dream just a few weeks ago.

“I think he will be for a few weeks,” boss Jose Mourinho told reporters on March 28. “I think in the end he was lucky because it was a strong contusion and will take a little bit of time to recover.”

David de Gea is not a bad cup deputy to have, but you can bet a number of United’s Spanish speakers will be Facetiming Romero from the Wembley dressing room if United reach their second FA Cup final in three years.
