Sterling: This title can be just the start for us now

-

RAHMEEM Sterling has already set himself, and his team-mates a new challenge - defend the Premier League title next season.

City have never successfully defender the league title, and very few sides have done so in the history of the Premier League.

But with the Blues squad one of the youngest in the league, Sterling believes this can be just the start for the side, especially now they all have one title medal in the bag.

“I think sustained success is a big thing for this team,” said Sterling.

“Look at Leroy (Sane), Gabriel (Jesus), John Stones, they’re all quality players but they’re young guys too.

“Vinny has already said how important it will be for us to look to win it again next year and that will be the big test.

“City haven’t done that before, but every year we play together we’ll get better and, hopefully, we can win more trophies in future.

“Plenty of teams win trophies but to defend them is a different challenge and if we can do that then we’ll be moving in the right direction.”

Sterling has been much improved this season, and he puts that down to the work he has done with manager Pep Guardiola.

“He pushes you to be better at the small things and that improves your performance,” he said.

“It’s be great for me to learn in this environment and improve as a player under him. He’s one of the best managers in the world. It’s special to be part of.”
