Sane sets his sights on the ones that got away

- By CHRIS OSTICK

LEROY Sane says this season’s Champions League exit will provide the motivation for City next season.

The Blues already have the Premier League title in the bag, and made it a double by claiming the Carabao Cup.

But despite being seen as favourites by many, they were dumped out of the Champions League by Liverpool at the quarterfinal stage.

And they suffered a shock defeat at the hands of League One Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.

And those two failures are already spurring on Sane ahead of next season.

“It’s been a great season, but we can still always improve, and that will be our focus in the summer when we prepare for next season,” he said.

“I hope we can win many more trophies.

“The team is ambitious and we want to compete for everything.

“We didn’t win everything we wanted this season, and this is something to motivate us when we start again in the summer.

“Yes, it’s very exciting. We have a young team but also a lot of experience within the squad as well. It’s a good mix.

“This season has taught us a lot about how we work together and we want that to continue for as long as we can.

“Defending the Premier League trophy is very difficult, but we will try our best.”
