From Plopsaland to the pub – how Blues celebrated

- By STUART BRENNAN sport@men-news.co.uk @ManCityMEN

UNITED’S shock defeat by West Brom caught City players on the hop.

The squad were given four days off by Pep Guardiola after the 3-1 win at Spurs on Saturday night.

And that means the squad was scattered across the globe as they were declared champions … and ended up celebrating in small groups or with family and friends.

One Blues ace even ended up going to Plopsaland with his family – perhaps the strangest title celebration venue ever!

So where were City players when they won the title – and how did they celebrate?

EDERSON THE goalkeeper had flown to Lisbon with his pregnant wife and was watching old club Benfica take on Porto at Esatdio da Luz when news came through of City’s triumph.

“We went out to dinner and had a drink with some friends to celebrate,” said the Brazil international.

KYLE WALKER HE and fellow Yorkshireman John Stones phoned each other at precisely the same time after West Brom scored. He then tweeted a picture of Forrest Gump running, claiming it was him on the way to Benjamin Mendy’s house ‘for the party’. Later spotted at a pub in Hale, having a sing-song with teammates and fans, declaring it ‘one of the greatest Sundays of my life’.

DANILO ONE of the few who were actually watching United, from his sofa at home.

VINCENT KOMPANY FAMOUSLY, at his in-laws’ house in Irlam for a family get-together, and was filmed celebrating with wife Carla as her glum stepdad – in an old United shirt – sat in the corner Joined team-mates in the Hale pub.

JOHN STONES HE and Bernardo Silva were filmed singing ‘We Are the Champions’ in a car en route to Hale.

BENJAMIN MENDY SPENT the early part of his break in Mecca, but still found time to photoshop City’s official ‘champions’ graphic, replacing Raheem Sterling’s head with his own!

FABIAN DELPH JOINED the celebrations in Hale – can be seen chuckling in a corner as skipper Kompany stands on a seat to address the celebrating throng.

ILKAY GUNDOGAN RETURNED to Germany to watch former club Borussia Dortmund in action in the Ruhr derby. He said: “I was still in the stadium with my cousin and uncle enjoying dinner when news came through.”

KEVIN DE BRUYNE POSSIBLY the least conventional title celebration ever – the Belgian ace took his wife and young family to Plopsaland, a theme park in his homeland.

DAVID SILVA PROVIDED the most poignant moment of the day, posting a picture of himself cuddling baby son Mateo after jetting back to Valencia. The nipper was born prematurely in December, leading to Silva missing several games on compassionate grounds.

LEROY SANE WAS also at the Ruhr derby – but not with Gundogan, as he was supporting opponents Schalke, his former club!

BERNARDO SILVA ADMITS he was still in his pyjamas, late on Sunday afternoon, when he realised United were losing. Soon got himself dressed and headed to Hale.

GABRIEL JESUS WAS filmed dancing topless around his central Manchester apartment as the news of United’s demise came through – and went bowling with friends on Monday by way of a celebration.

SERGIO AGUERO INJURED for the Spurs game, Kun had already flown to Spain to spend some time with son Benjamin, before undergoing keyhole surgery on Tuesday.
